Braxton at Christmas '08

We went to a church party on Saturday. That helped get me in the mood. Braxton sitting on Santa's lap was too funny. No hesitancy! Just got going with his list and we had to tell him to wrap it up. He mentioned a few things I'd never heard about. The little boy wants it all! Yikes! He even requested a harp and a tuba!!! Of course we've already got drums on the way (sure I'll regret that). He told me the other day that five was a good number. So glad because he's getting a few bigger things. The kid's pretty smart because he convinced me to put up a stocking for his imaginary friend. What do you think that means? He and Fabi Du "share" the candy and toys inside. Oh well an extra granola bar, M&Ms, stickers and magnets isn't too much. I'm just regretting not thinking of that when I was his age. Little kids can be funny.

Big brothers are the best!

So one day I had to leave Mr. Bryson in the swing for a second while I went to make the bottle. His hunger had him all worked up. All of sudden it got quiet. I finished up the bottle and came in to the cutest thing. Braxton had at some point went into his room, and grabbed "monkey friend" to give to his brother. Bryson was busy chewing the ear of this grubby little stuffed animal and no longer crying. Braxton was on his knees staring at little Bryson, just smiling because he had helped him be happy! I was smiling too! Such a sweet moment.

a mommy moment

My Braxton blogs so far have been him being a bit mischievous. He's not always like that. One of my favorite moments with him was quite tender. Our day didn't necessarily start that way. We were having a hard time being on the same page about many of the day's tasks. He didn't want to follow through with all of my requests (which soon became demands) and I wasn't going to negotiate the way he wanted me to. The day was coming to a close and in all my frustrations I just wanted to finish the nightly routine. Notice the word used was finish. My goal literally at that point wasn't to enjoy my two and a half year old son; it was to get him in bed and shut the door. Shame on me! Eventually after the bath, pajamas, teeth brushing, scripture reading, and prayers we were there. I turned on his primary song cd and patted his back. We gave hug and kisses to finish the night. I was eager just to sit as I was mentally exhausted. Not long after our final goodnights had been said I heard a sobbing come from his room. Of course I went in to check on him and was surprised at what had caused the emotions. When I had asked what was wrong, he said "I heard a mommy song but there was no mommy here to sing it to me." (referring to Mother, I Love You) His love for me and the forgiveness that he had for my stubborness just melted my heart. Kids are here to teach us sometimes!

Song lyrics:Mother I love you; mother I do. Father in Heaven has sent me to you. When I am near you, I love to hear you singing so softly that you love me too. Mother, I love you; I love you, I do.Mother I love you; mother I do. I want to help you because I love you. I want to mind you. I want to find you happy and smiling because I love you. Mother. I love you; I love you, I do.

Oopsy daisy!

So the other day I found Lee's lost cell phone. This happens a lot. He loses something and I know just where to look. Turns out that place was the bottom of the washing machine. I couldn't believe I had washed his phone (again). Yes you read that right! This is the second time. He never empties his pockets and well it's pretty obvious that I don't check. We make a great couple in every other way. I was hesitant to tell him the bad news but brought it up when it was time to set his alarm. I knew he wouldn't be angry. He never is! Still he's a gadget guy and this is not the first offense. I would be at least irritated by now. Truth is Lee is better than me. He didn't say a word other than to tell me it was okay. I guess I gave him a reason to upgrade and he knew he could score good deals right now being the wise consumer he is! Still this whole thing reminded me how lucky I am.

If only I would have known...

So last night Lee ate ice cream with a camping spoon and I'll admit it I laughed at him. It wasn't until this morning when I was hunting for something to scoop up my preferred breakfast, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, that I realized what happened. All of the spoons in our house have disappeared. Well that's not exactly true. I had the wooden spoon or a spoon I just can't figure out left to choose from. It is either the largest soup spoon or a smaller ladel, either way not ideal for cereal. For those of you who are worried that we've been robbed again please don't be alarmed. Turns out months ago I showed Braxton that a spoon and a formula can, oatmeal canister, or a margarine butter tub could be a drum set. I didn't know that my creative fix could mess up my morning! I had looked for an actual spoon too long and the cereal was almost too soggy for consumption. Still ate it! This story does have a happy ending. I was pretty lucky to find most of my little Houdini's "drumsticks." Still on the hunt for the whole set but I scored big with the book box, under his bed, in the garage by the generator and at other random parts of our house! The spoons have been gathered up and thrown into the dishwasher. I think I am done with the cereal ladel. Well actually... :)
